Gospel in Life
| Fritz Harding & Karen Brantley |
Chapel |
Timothy Keller, author of “The Reason for God” and “The Prodigal God,” was Fritz and Karina Harding's pastor when they attended the church Keller founded, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, in New York City (Manhattan).
Session 1 opens the course with the theme of the city: your home now, the world that is. Session 8 closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: your heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between, you will look at how the gospel changes your heart (sessions 2 and 3), changes your community (sessions 4 and 5) and changes how you live in the world (sessions 6 and 7).
Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan is known as a church of extensive mission and social action. Karen Brantley, Director of Hispanic Ministries of the West Ohio Conference, has been working with the Hispanic population in Columbus since well before she accepted that position. Those who know Fritz and Karina know the work they do to help their neighbors in the Victorian Village/Short North sections of Columbus. Fritz Harding and Karen Brantley will make a team that is a gift of gold to Trinity's missions and to all who are open to a continuing opening of their hearts and their minds to opportunities to serve those in our community who are the greatest in need. Handbells for Learners (ALL ages, children and adults!)
Diane Stanley, Director of our wonderful Bell Choir, will be training all adults and children who wish to learn to play the bells. The training will take place during the 10:00 Sunday school hour each Sunday. Come one, come all! This is an opportunity for people, age 8 through 98 or older to learn to play the bells. Families may have fun coming together! But do not feel you must be part of a family. You are part of the Trinity family. Diane will be teaching the bells through the scriptures and the Sunday school curriculum the children would be having in their classes. This Christian Education/Music Education combination packs a punch that only the two together can accomplish!

Disciple I: Becoming Disciples through Bible
Study emphasizes a disciplined reading of and listening to Scripture. During the course, participants read more than 70% of the Bible. Each participant commits to about 30 minutes of daily preparatioas well as to attending all weekly classes. The results are transformational, as Disciple Bible Study calls persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God's word, and to be changed by it.
Alison Poor writes about her recent Disciple I experience:
"
In reading over 70% of the Bible, I realized how differently each of the people in the Bible experienced God and how their relationships with Him were always unique. As a result, I now feel more secure in how I experience my faith and about the relationship I have with God. I also gained a deeper understanding of Jesus' message of love and how that extends to me and to everyone in the world."
Disciple I runs Thursdays September 15 - May 17 from 9-11 a.m. in Trinity's Room 207. If needed, childcare can be provided. Please contact Rev. Aspey with questions: 488-0695 or aaspey@trinityumchurch.com.
DISCIPLE III: Remember Who You Are
Disciple III
is aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. Its purpose may be expressed in the words of Ephesians 4:12: "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory.
Several themes weave their way through the study - the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision (eyes to see, ears to hear); and the place of community. One of Trinity's clergy members was recently overheard saying,"In seminary we never read as deeply and as widely as we do in Disciple!" The gift of Disciple Study is a gift that continues being unwrapped throughout our lives as its influence resounds long after its four years of study have ended.
DISCIPLE III study runs Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. September 14 through May 2 . Child care will be provided as needed.
Dr. Carolyn Leick and Janet Goodwin are delighted to be leading Disciple III. All participants must have completed Disciple I. However, It is not necessary for participants in Disciple III to have completed Disciple II.
