Bethlehem on Broad
Trinity's ministry of holiday assistance

Trinity's 2008 goal is 500 food boxes ("BoB Boxes") each providing a family of 4 with 3 meals a day for 4 days. Trinity provides the leadership in packing 1,200 boxes—58,000 meals—with the assistance of 5 other churches and organizations!

How you can help

The Mission — For eight years, Trinity United Methodist Church (TUMC) has participated in the “Bethlehem on Broad Street Ministry” project— affectionately known as “BoB Box ” at Trinity—hosted at the Broad Street United Methodist Church. The Bethlehem on Broad Street Ministry provides holiday assistance (a hot Christmas meal, food boxes, toys, and clothing) to 2,500 people during the Christmas season at Broad Street UMC. The project is a combined effort of many churches, faith communities, and organizations. TUMC provides food boxes (“BoB Boxes”), each providing a family of four with three meals a day for four days.

Beginnings — In 2000, Mike Johnson, a Trinity member who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, initiated TUMC's participation as an opportunity to teach our children the importance of sharing. Mike produced 50 boxes that were put together in his garage, and he personally delivered them to the Broad Street church. After Mike passed away in August 2001, the TUMC Lifebuilders Group (of which Mike was a member) committed to honoring his memory and good works. "Bob Boxes" have turned into the largest ministry project at TUMC with over 100 members participating. The TUMC congregation helps roughly 500 families as it carries forth Mike Johnson's legacy.

Trinity has helped to increase the total number of boxes of food provided to the community to over 1,200—nearly 58,000 meals each year—and has a leadership role in coordinating the other churches involved.
