The traditional worship services begin at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sundays in the sanctuary, a beautiful room consecrated to the worship of God. The Williamsburg architecture immediately focuses the mind and heart to the focal point of the room, which is a large cross, the symbol of our faith, reminding us of the sacrifice of Christ, Who died for the sins of the world.
Traditional worship features great hymns of Christendom accompanied by Janet Linker on the pipe organ. One of the choirs normally sings, children’s moments are presented for fifth grade and younger children, who then depart the sanctuary to attend religious programming designed for their age and interest level.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is offered at all worship services on the first Sunday of each month.
At traditional worship, the clergy wear clerical robes, the scriptures are read from the lectern and the sermon is proclaimed from the pulpit. Rev. Philip Brooks, senior minister, normally preaches three Sundays per month at both the traditional and contemporary services. Rev. Colleen Ogle preaches the last Sunday of the month at the traditional worship service and Rev. Amy Aspey preaches the last Sunday of the month at the contemporary worship service.
The purpose of worship at Trinity is to focus our minds and hearts on God, to learn more about God’s will for us as taught in scripture, and to prepare the congregation to go out into the world to live the Christian life and influence our world in positive ways in service to Christ. |
